California Roll-Watercress Sprout RecipeDelicious California Roll with Cress Sprouts  

You can buy California Rolls or make them yourself either way watercress adds a delicious flavor!

♥ Crab Meat (Already Cooked)
♥ Avocado and Cucumber (peeled & don't use the middle with the seeds)
♥ Home grown Watercress Sprouts as many as you'd like
♥ 2 cups Short Grain Sushi Rice/and 2 cups water use the same amount of water as rice (After the rice is washed!)
♥ Seaweed Sheets (Organic Pacific Sushi Nori Pre-toasted Sheets)
♥ Rice Wine Vinegar (You may only find this at an Asian Market)
♥ Salt (I use sea salt)

How to make California Roll Sushi with Watercress Sprouts:

♥ RICE PREPARATION:  I like to use a Rice Cooker but first with the Japanese short grain rice it needs to be washed! Put the rice in a large bowl, cover with cold water just enough to cover the rice and with your hand gently massage the rice for about 20 seconds - drain and start the same washing process over again, this will need to be done about 5 times.  This will remove the gluey smelly starches. Then place rice in the Rice Cooker I like to add a small 3 cm square of Kombu (seaweed) After the rice is done remove Kombu and leave the rice covered and shut the Rice Cooker off and allow it to continue to cook for approx. 10 minutes.  After stir and fan the rice to cool it.

♥ VINEGAR DRESSING:  100 ml Japanese Rice Wine Vinegar or also known as (Sake); 60 grams sugar; 20 grams salt; prepare by dissolving salt and sugar in the vinegar over low heat/this can be pre-made and left in the refrigerator.

♥ BAMBOO MAT:  I like to put a plastic wrap on the mat it is cleaner.  Take a small amount of cooled rice and dip your fingers in the Vinegar Dressing and with your fingers spread the rice thinly on one side of the seaweed approx. 7 1/2" x 8 1/2" Sheet; then carefully flip the rice side down on the plastic wrap which should already be on the Bamboo Mat.  Then in the middle of the seaweed side of the sheet add the thinly sliced avocado, cucumber slices, cooked crab and your watercress sprouts (these will add a beautiful spicy flavor to your California Roll.)  You can also add alfalfa, radish or broccoli sprouts in any combination as well.  You can grow a variety of sprouting seeds with great ease with Watercress Kits!

♥ ROLL-UP: When rolling it up make sure that you lift the plastic wrap up so that it is not left on the Sushi Roll. and use the Bamboo Mat to form and press the roll as you roll it up.  After you've rolled up the California Roll you can add Masago or Smelt Roe (orange crunchy fish eggs) and toasted sesame seeds to the rice side of the outside of your roll, and then cut with a very sharp knife.  If any sticking occurs use a little of the Vinegar Dressing on the knife or your fingers this will only add flavor to the California Watercress Roll you can use soy sauce or Teriyaki sauce (I prefer Teriyaki Sauce because soy can hinder my thyroid hormones, so I try to limit the amount of Soy that our family eats) If you need any detailed pictures you can go online under How to Make Sushi Rice or California Roll. Watercress & Chicken Salad Spread RecipeWatercress and Chicken Salad Spread Recipe

Great with either chicken, turkey or tuna:     

♥ 2 cup Chicken or Tuna in water
♥ 1/8 cup chopped red or yellow onions
♥ 1/4 cup mayonnaise or Miracle Whip
♥ ¼ tsp. Season Salt (or to taste)
♥ Pinch of Paprika/pinch of Garlic/and pepper to taste
♥ 1 tsp. regular yellow Mustard
♥ 1/2 tsp. Worchester Sauce (about 3 drops)
♥ 1/8 cup Chopped watercress sprouts (also great to add alfalfa sprouts for an added nutty flavor) 

Optional: Julian carrots, raisins, walnuts, apple cubes, celery finely chopped.  I took an apple cut out the middle added the apple to the Chicken Salad and then filled up the cored out apple with the Chicken Salad.  Add a few sprigs of watercress for the garnish.  I give a half apple per person.  Great as a sandwich a snack at the office or an appetizer with crackers!

Watercress & Salmon Spread Appetizers Recipe  Salmon Spread with Cress Appetizers

Your choice to use either wheat or flavored crackers, or sliced   baguettes to put the salmon spread on.  It’s best to make at least 4-6 for each person they are delicious!

♥ Crackers or baguette thinly sliced
♥ Salmon spread
♥ Chopped watercress and or alfalfa sprouts
♥ Optional Julian carrots and beets and a few sprigs of watercress for the garnish.

Simply Delicious! 

 

Hibiscus, Watercress and Ginger Tea Recipe  

Drink Delicious Ruby Red Iced Tea or hot.  Brewed from Hibiscus Tea and Zesty Watercress that you grew! Naturally Caffeine FreeWatercress and Hybiscus Ginger Tea

(Serves 8)

♥ 1 tsp Thinly Sliced Peeled fresh ginger
♥ 1/2 to 3/4 cups of organic sugar or you can use (1/4 cup of agave nectar instead of sugar) taste for desired sweetness before serving.
♥ 4 Hibiscus tea bags
♥ Approx. 1/8 - 1/2 cup of Watercress Kits Sprouts (use the entire sprout)
♥ 2 Tablespoons fresh lime juice or lemon juice if desired
♥ Lime wedges to garnish
♥ 4 cups purified or distilled drinking water

· Put 4 cups water, ginger and sugar into a medium saucepan and heat to just a low boil over a medium heat stirring until sugar or agave nectar dissolves.  Remove from heat; add 4 hibiscus tea bags and watercress cover and let steep 15 minutes.

· Pour through a fine sieve (you can put a paper coffee filter in the sieve to help with the straining) into a bowl set in an ice water bath let cool stir in 2 tablespoons fresh lime juice.  (According to desired strength small amounts of water can be added gradually to dilute but the ice will dilute the tea as well)  Serve over crushed ice and garnish with lime wedges for a refreshing and healthful drink the entire family can enjoy!

· The reason that only 1/8 - 1/2 of a cup of cress sprouts are used is the potency of the juice.  Use the fresh Watercress Sprouts not juiced with a juicer, a juice from a juicer would be to strong.  Since sprouts provide up to 600% more vitamins than the full grown plant you will need a very little portion of sprouts to other veggies and liquids in your juice. 

· According to Web MD "Hibiscus Tea May Cut Blood Pressure" and Hibiscus is a rich source of Vitamin "C" and may help with high cholesterol.

Watercress & Barley Corn Salad Recipe

This salad recipe is a favorite at our home because of its combination of flavors which are all brought to life by the Watercress Sprouts!Watercress & Barley Corn Salad Recipe

♥ 2 cups cooked Organic Barley
♥ ½ cup Organic Corn
♥ ½ cup chopped red onions
♥ 2 tablespoons Extra Virgin Olive Oil
♥ ¼ tsp. Rosemary
♥ ¼ tsp. Basil
♥ ¼ tsp. Garlic
♥ ¼ tsp. Cumin
♥ Pinch salt to taste
♥ Chopped watercress sprouts (add alfalfa sprouts from your Watercress Variety Refill Kit for added flavor and nutrition)
♥ Optional Julian carrots, red cabbage and beets and a few sprigs of watercress for the garnish. (I don’t consider this cheating)  Since some of the larger health food grocery store have salad bars, you can save time and cost by buying some of you’re items for the garnishment at the salad bar!
 
 


Guacamole with Watercress Sprouts and LimeGuacamole with Watercress Sprouts and Lime Recipe

♥  4-5 ripe Avocados
♥ 1/2 finely chopped onion
♥ 2 tsp. finely chopped Cilantro (optional)
♥ 1 finely chopped small tomato
♥ 1/2 of a lime (squeezed)
♥ 2 Tbs Watercress Kits Sprouts (it's not necessary to chop the sprouts, but I like to chop them very fine and just cut off the very ends of the roots)
♥ Seasoning:  sprinkle or add a pinch of ground Poultry Seasoning which is (thyme, sage, marjoram, rosemary, black pepper and nutmeg combined) or add seperately the desired combination; small pinch ground oregano; sprinkle garlic powder; 2-3 drops Worcestershire Sauce; pinch of salt to taste. 

Mash Avocados (I use a potato masher); add the seasoning mix well; add onions, tomato and cilantro if desired; add the lime and more salt if needed mix everything together really well.  You can place plastic wrap right on top of the Guacamole it will keep it from browning as fast, and if you are not going to serve it right away, cover it so that no light gets to it and leave the lime juice on top without mixing it in until ready to eat.  Otherwise it will brown very quickly.  

Serve with Chips, or even with burritos, tacos or fajitas and Enjoy! 

 

Watercress Recipe for Pizza BreadWatercress Sprouts on Pizza Bread

Kids love to help and this Pizza Bread Recipe it's easy and Cress Sprouts add great flavor to this fun and easy treat!

White, wheat Sliced Bread, or english muffin
♥ Pizza Sauce
♥ Meat if desired
♥ Mozzarella cheese

For this recipe your child could have grown "Cress Egg Heads" or use the ones grown in the Sprouter.

Always make sure when using the oven or toaster oven that adult supervision is available the entire time.  Bake in the oven at 325° or a toaster oven until the cheese melts 4-6 minutes (Keep watch it doesn't take very long to cook) And, "Watch out" it's hot!  Enjoy. 

Watercress on Handmade Pizza Bread Dough Recipe;

Ingredients: Recipe Handmade Pizza Dough

 1 pkg Active Dry Yeast
♥ 1 cup very warm good water 110 degrees F
(Hot:Parent needs to do this)
♥ 2-1/2 to 3 cups of flour (1/2 a cup will be used to flour & kneed the dough)
♥ 1-1/2 tsp salt
♥ 1-1/2 tsp olive or safflower oil

Directions: 

In a large bowl, combine: yeast, water, oil, salt and mix together this will help to get it to rise, and then let it be for 5 minutes. After 5 minutes has passed, add 1½ cups of the flour or half; mix it together very well.  Add 1 cup of flour leaving ½ cup to be used when you start mixing the dough by hand.  Transfer dough to a lightly floured surface and knead dough for at least 5-7 minutes, this is when you will add enough additional flour from the ½ cup to form a smooth and elastic dough, this will keep it from getting sticky.  Place the dough in a lightly oiled medium sized bowl and turn the dough in the oil this will coat it all over.  Then, cover the bowl with a damp towel; place it in a warm place to allow it to rise until double its size this takes about 1 hour.

After the dough has risen, turn the oven to 450, and divide the dough in half for two pizzas or into 4 balls for smaller kid’s size pizza.  You can use a pan or a pizza stone.  Roll out the dough to about a quarter of an inch thickness; curl the edge in order to form a lip on the pizza so the sauce doesn’t run off. Add your sauce and then your toppings and cheese.    (Always have parental supervision when using an oven) Set your timer:  it will take 10-12 minutes for the pizzas to be ready to remove from the oven.  Get a parent and remember it’s hot!  After a parent has removed the pizza from the oven, now is the time to add your watercress sprouts you can pull or cut the sprouts (if you cut them make sure you have adult supervision) add your sprouts to the top of your Kid's Pizza Pie Creation, & everyone can enjoy!

 

Watercress Club Sandwich Recipe 

Sandwiches are always a favorite in our house it's easy and everyone can have what they want & Watercress Sprouts add to the flavor and too your families health!                                                                                            club Sandwich with Watercress Sprouts

 Sliced Bread or Roll
♥ 1 large Sliced Tomato
♥ ½ medium onion sliced
♥ Mayonnaise - Spicy Mustard
♥ Slices of meat this sandwich has ham
♥ ¼ cup fresh watercress and or alfalfa sprouts
♥ Slices of cheese your choice
♥ optional avocado slices
♥ Lettuce

Serve with: Chips, Potatoe Salad, or Coleslaw! 

 

Watercress Shrimp Cocktail Sauce Recipe Shrimp Sauce Recipe with Watercress Sprouts

Shrimp Sauce with Watercress Sprouts: Make it Mild or Spicy!Watercress Shrimp Sauce Recipe

1/2 cup of Ketchup
♥ 1/2 teaspoon Prepared Horseradish
♥ 1/4 teaspoon Prepared Regular Mustard
 

Add to taste: pinch of Salt/Garlic Powder/2 drops Worcestershire Sauce.  Chop 1/2-tsp. watercress sprouts very fine or puree them is even better, especially the roots and add a garnish of cress on the top of the sauce.  Serve Chilled with Cooked Shrimp!

Remember that a little goes a long ways with sprouts because they are so packed with raw goodness and flavor.  This will be very cost effective as well!

Serve with chilled cooked shrimp; "bonappetit"



Reuben Sandwich with Watercress Sprouts Recipe:Reuben Sandwich with Watercress Sprouts Recipe

This is a fast sandwich that is a meal

Per Sandwich:

  • 2 slices of Swiss Cheese
  • 2 slices rye bread (seeds or no seeds your preference)
  • 1 teaspoon butter
  • 3 ounces of corned beef (preferably thin sliced)
  • 1/4 - 1/2 cup drained Sauerkraut
  • 1/8 cup watercress sprouts (not cooked, wait and add to the finished sandwich)

Spread butter on the slice of bread place on grill and add the Swiss Cheese.  Warm up the corned beef on the grill and drain the Sauerkraut; place the Sauerkraut on top of the cheese and the warmed corned beef on top of the Sauerkraut the cheese and kraut will keep any liquid from making your bread soggy.  Add the other piece of bread and butter, when the first side is brown flip over and brown the other side of the bread.  Open sandwich and add fresh watercress sprouts cut and serve.

If desired you can make a spread for the sandwich:

  • 1/2 cup Mayonnaise
  • 2 pinches of paprika
  • sprinkle of seasoned salt
  • 1 teaspoons of French dressing

Mix well and spread on the sandwich!

 

Zucchini and Watercress Sprout Recipe

Zucchini and Watercress Sprouts Recipe

These delicious veggies are cooked in a wok

  • 3 green and 2 yellow Zucchini
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 2 pinches of garlic pepper seasoning
  • salt to taste
  • 1/8 cup of watercress sprouts (uncooked)

Stir fry the zucchini in the butter to lightly brown.  Add the garlic pepper and sea salt.  Finish stir frying and just before serving add the watercress sprouts to the top and serve.

 This is a light and delightful addition to your meal and kids will love it too!

This cress and spinach salad recipe is so fresh and you can add a variety of ingrediences to your salad to make it your own and it's all brought to life by the Watercress Sprouts.  Grown Right in your home!

♥ 6 cups Organic Baby Spinach
♥ ½ cup chopped red onion
♥ ½ cup cress sprouts
♥ 3 hard boiled eggs

Liz, 35, the *1.2m face of Estee Lauder has a “Cheat's Guide” to looking good. She says: "I'm appalling at keeping myself in tip-top shape. If I'm not filming or doing photographs I can revert to the Wild Woman of Wonga look." To keep hunger at bay she makes her own watercress soup. Liz said: "It's fatless, low calorie, full of vitamins and iron and delicious enough to serve at a dinner party. I drink at least six cups (Watercress Soup) a day when eager to lose a few pounds." WATERCRESS SOUP Watercress is frequently mentioned as a food staple in the twelfth-century manuscript Agallamh na Seanorach (The Colloquy of the Old Men). Legend has it that it was watercress that enabled St Brendan to live the ripe old age of 180! §   3 Tablespoons sweet (unsalted) butter

 

§ 1 1/4 cups potatoes, peeled and chopped

 

§ 1 1/4 cups yellow onion, chopped finely

 

§ Kosher salt and freshly ground pepper, to taste

 

§ 2 1/2 cups chicken stock (I use Chicken) or use vegetable stock

 

§ 2 1/2 cups creamy milk or for reduced calorie low fat milk

 

§ 1-1 ½ cups Organic Watercress Kits Sprouts! (rinse & remove most seed hulls, this can be done with a hors d'oeuvre fork or a regular fork)Seed Hull Removal

 

(Finely chop & use the entire watercress sprout, the root of the watercress sprouts can be stringy that's why I have found it better to finely chop or even puree the entire watercress sprouts and roots .  Also, sprouts have just as much flavor as the full grown plant and provide up to 600% more vitamins so do not juice them it will be too strong!)        

 

 

Method: Melt the butter in a heavy-bottomed sauté pan. When it foams, add the potatoes and onions and toss until well coated. Sprinkle with salt and freshly ground pepper (add mixed veggies if desired). Cover the pan and let the vegetables cook over low heat for 10 minutes. Add the stock and the milk bring to a boil and cook until the potatoes and onions are soft. (If you are going to wait on serving the soup and you are cooking it ahead of time, wait until about 20 minutes before you are ready to eat the soup before you add the watercress, and then follow the next two steps!) 

  • Add the watercress and boil with the lid off for approximately 4 to 5 minutes till the watercress is cooked. Do not overcook so the soup maintains it nutrients. (This soup will be a lighter color due to the tender sprouts, but it will not lack the delicious cress flavor)

  • Puree the soup in a blender or food processor (CAUTION: Be careful when blending hot soup, it can blow up on you, look at blender instructions) Taste & add a little more salt & pepper if necessary. Divide among 6 soup bowls & serve.

Note: You can add 1 cup of cooked mixed frozen veggies, sautéed celery and/or leek. And, if extra calories don’t matter; you can add 1-2 teaspoons bacon grease for flavor, when you’re cooking the potatoes & onions remember to make the recipe your own!  This is the recipe that I use and I use the leek and bacon grease for added flavor. 


Watercress Juice with Sprouts & Vegetable Juice RecipeGreen Cress Juice

The Ratio is for every 10oz vegetable juice & water use 1 to 2-Tablespoons of fresh Watercress Kits Cress Sprouts “Super-food” The ratio is usually 1oz of (full grown) watercress to 10 ounces of veggie juice - but remember that Watercress Sprouts provide up to 600% more vitamins than the full grown plant; so 2-Tbs of watercress sprouts will be very powerful once it is juiced; it will yield approximately 1-tsp of watercress sprout juice and this is highly concentrated for power packed Raw Food Nutrition; believe me you will taste the watercress. (Do not drink the watercress sprout juice by itself, it is too powerful!) 

 2 Cup water (purified or distilled)
♥ 1 large Tomato
♥ 1 Stalk Celery
♥ 1 medium Carrot
♥ 1 tsp Chopped Wakame or Dulse (Sea Veggie)
♥ 2 Tbs of Watercress Kits Sprouts produces approximately 1 tsp of cress juice (do not use more)
♥ 1/4 of a small clove of garlic to taste (garlic can make your juice spicy hot)
